About Film:

Things Heard & Seen is a 2021 American horror thriller film written and directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, based on the novel All Things Cease to Appear by Elizabeth Brundage. It stars Amanda Seyfried and James Norton. It was released on April 29, 2021, by Netflix. In 1980, Catherine Clare (Amanda Seyfried) is an art restorer who lives in Manhattan with her husband George (James Norton) and daughter Franny. She reluctantly trades life in Manhattan for a remote home in the tiny hamlet of Chosen, New York, when George lands a job teaching art history at a small college. She finds herself increasingly isolated and an eating disorder she suffers from gets worse. Soon after moving in, she finds a family Bible hidden away on a shelf in the kitchen. She takes it down and reads the family lineage only to see that some names have been scratched out with the word “Damned” written below. She soon begins to see strange lights in the house, and one of these lights leads her to an antique ring stuck in the kitchen window sill. Catherine begins wearing it. Franny also feels the presence of a ghostly being in her room and screams at night, wanting to sleep with her parents, which causes a rift. George is skeptical, and Catherine decides not to share much with him. At home, Catherine employs Eddie (Alex Neustaedter) and Cole Lucks, two brothers who offer to help around the house. George also begins a secret affair with Willis (Natalia Dyer), a young woman he meets at the library. At night, Franny continues to be frightened by the house, with the ghostly apparition of a woman appearing in front of her. At work, George’s colleague Justine Sokolov (Rhea Seehorn) invites him and Catherine to dinner. She and Catherine bond and become friends. On the way back home, George is high and driving the car recklessly, upsetting Catherine before trying to grope her. She gets out of the car and George follows her as they argue. He eventually pushes her into a ditch by the road, hurting her. When George apologizes to Catherine at home in Franny’s room, Franny’s nightlight explodes.
